Paul Ballantyne calls Dunblane his home town as he did most of his growing up there. He plays a variety of instruments but prefers to back Gerry on his mandola.

Gerry Glynn hails from Limerick Ireland. He does most of the singing as his lovely Irish voice is well suited to the songs MacGuinness play. Gerry plays guitar mainly but can manage a great beat on the bodhran or bongos.

Gerry and Paul started MacGuinness after getting together one day to see if they could complement each other's playing. Both are well known on the Essex folk scene. They can be seen some Sunday Evenings at The Swan pub in Horndon On The Hill where they attend the Sail Loft folk club Or on Wednesday evenings (work permiting) at the Romford Folk Club held in The Old Oak in Romford. The style of music they play is generally Irish and Scottish traditional folk music to which they try and bring their own interpretation into the arrangements.

Now you don't need to go to Ireland to hear great traditional Irish music, MacGuinness are one of the best Irish Duos in the UK. "Sheer brilliance" is how the Vice Chairman of the Southend Irish Association described them.
